Tommy Down Drops Soul-Stirring Live Studio Video for ‘Do You Want It All?’

Today, Tommy Down unleashes his gripping Live Studio Sessions video for Do You Want It All?, on METAL Magazine, filmed at The Crypt Studio in North London. The track, the lead single from his upcoming EP due later this year, follows the success of Mrs Blue from his 2024 album 21st Century Living, which racked up over 5.7 million Spotify streams. With tastemaker support from CLASH Magazine, NOTION, Earmilk, Radio X, RTÉ 2XM, and NPR, the Camden-based artist has carved a niche in soulful psych rock. Tommy Down’s raw, emotive performances, shaped by his UK-Ghanaian heritage and influences from Marvin Gaye to Tame Impala, have also landed six of his tracks across all three seasons of HBO’s Industry, co-created by his brother Mickey Down. A veteran of Camden Rocks Festival and a former member of BUJO, a Bristol jazz outfit, he’s worked with heavyweights like Jon Shave, Jason Pebworth, and Jeffrey Silverman, cementing his rise in the scene.

The Live Studio Sessions video captures Tommy Down and his tight-knit band—Aarron Dolby on bass, Tom Wardle on guitar, and Jack Purbrick on drums—in a raw, monochrome performance directed by Louid Hudd. Do You Want It All? weaves dreamy psych rock with soulful undertones, its haunting vocals floating over layered guitar riffs, steady basslines, and crisp percussion. The video’s intimate, behind-the-scenes vibe shifts into stark black-and-white shots, spotlighting Tommy’s unguarded delivery. Each chord and lyric pulls listeners into a reflective soundscape, blending the grit of Radiohead with the ethereal haze of Mazzy Star.

Tommy Down shares, “The song draws from some Radiohead tracks like ‘Creep’ but with a shoegazery spin to it. Mazzy Star is also an inspiration. The lyrics are about maintaining your soul and morals in your pursuit to gaining all your worldly possessions and acclaim. Managed to get a Bob Marley quote in there ‘Live for yourself and live in vain but live for others and you will live again’.” With this release, Tommy proves his knack for crafting music that’s both introspective and universal, setting the stage for an EP that promises to push his soul-psych fusion further. His unfiltered passion and sharp storytelling make this live session a must-watch for fans and newcomers alike.
