Nosila is the solo project of multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Simon Hatch based in Southern Australia. For his debut offering as Nosila, he crafted a spectacular indie folk single titled ‘Halfway’ released 13 September, on his own imprint Simon John Hatch Music. The single received support from acclaimed publication CLASH.
For Simon, the Nosila project has been incubating for 4 years, with the vision behind it driven by a deeply personal mission, as it’s in memory of his sister Alison. He shares; “I think for the most part, I write about what I think she felt and thought about, and how those thoughts and feelings somehow migrated over and on to me.”
Simon is currently sitting on 100 000 streams across platforms with his influence and impact growing steadily. ‘Halfway’ was mixed by Stefan Du Randt (Mac Miller) and mastered by Andrew Edgson (5 Seconds of Summer).
On the first listen the track might come across as light and nonchalant. However, despite its fun-loving melody and pace, it’s juxtaposed by melancholic lyrics. Nosila’s vocals are impeccable as he forays through a range of high tones and octaves, while the instrumental arrangement, in particular the guitar riffs and melody, elevate the track to new heights.
On the single he divulges; “I’ve always written fairly sad/melancholy music and this track was the first time I made a concise effort to write something more uplifting. The title ‘Halfway’ somewhat speaks for itself. The song really has a dual meaning, from meeting and creating new relationships in undiscovered places (the halfway) as well as making compromises in relationships.”
