MONA aka US vocalist, songwriter and producer Nick Brown returns with his first track since 2020. The rocking new single ‘Nothing Is Dead’ was released on 21st July via ZionnoiZ Recordings/Ingrooves/Virgin Music Group. Coing the name for his band after his grandmother Mona Brown, they stormed onto the music scene after appearing as part of the BBC Sound of 2011 poll and went onto win the Brand-New Act award at the MTV awards the same year.
MONA went on to sign with Island Records and thus their self-titled self-produced debut album was born, reaching the Top 40 in the UK and Top 20 in the US charts. Following the album’s release the band embarked on a world-spanning tour which saw them appear at some of the worlds finest festivals, namely Glastonbury, Reading/Leeds, Coachella, Lollapalooza in the U.S, Summer Sonic in Japan and Splendour in the Grass in Australia. If that wasnt enough, MONA has since toured with stars such as Noel Gallagher, The Walkmen, Morrissey, Johnny Marr, Queen, Billy Idol, and The Zombies.
‘Nothing Is Dead’ follows suit in the same vain, as MONA returns with a rocking bang. Meticulously arranged and produced, it has a distinctly raw feel, with Nick Brown’s voice locked and loaded with energy amidst power chords and aggressive drumming. The lyrics are vital to the track too, albeit in a cryptic and enigmatic way, as Brown sings about the artist’s eternal dilemma in finding both inspiration in life, and a muse for love and a cure for loneliness. It’s a stunning piece of rock, unfiltered, and uncut, a glimpse into the mind and soul of MONA as he longs for a lover that was once known to him, searching for the truth between the lines in a quest for balance.
