Rising London based via Leeds indie-rock outfit The Utopiates are pleased to announce a brand new release with the arrival of ‘Illuminise’, lifted from the upcoming album due in 2023 through V2 Records.

They say: “Illuminise is a ‘70s Bowie-inspired funk track with a touch of Daft Punk and the aggression of Sleaford Mods. Written around Josh’s wonky guitar hook we ran with the theme of being untouchable. Dan’s own experience of negative friendships and all the bullshit that goes with it was unleashed into this 3-minute banger. We’re rising up, don’t be green.”

Dubbed the band to watch in 2022 by cult indie promoter This Feeling, The Utopiates are a band in full force. Launched in January last year, they are already stacking up the accolades including the backing of legendary BBC Radio 6 Music DJ, Steve Lamacq and Radio X’s John Kennedy; and have just signed to V2 Records. Formed under the dark clouds of the pandemic, this is a band that’s confident in their sound and unafraid to push their output to new heights in 2022. No longer recording tracks in frontman Dan Popplewell’s bedroom, The Utopiates have found a new base at the Nave Studios in Leeds with producer Andy Hawkins.

The band recently completed a sold-out tour across the U.K, including Manchester (250 cap), Leeds (200 cap), Nottingham (150 cap) and Brighton (200 cap) and look set to hit the road again in April ‘23 around the release of their debut album ‘The Sun Also Rises’. They have also thrived on the biggest stages playing support slots at The Manchester Ritz and O2 Kentish Town and ticking off the legendary Isle of White Festival.
