Plain Mister Smith unleashes his new single We Were Called The Foxx’ ft Findlay Brown today, October 24, through Amelia Recordings and Symphonic. This follows the whimsical Miss Sunshine as the next installment in a series of tracks leading to his full-length debut, slated for spring 2026. A former guitarist in the Canadian darkwave outfit Moev, Smith also pulls double duty as a cellist with the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra, blending his classical chops into a solo project that’s earned nods from outlets like Wonderland Magazine, CLASH Magazine, NOTION, Under The Radar, Earmilk, METAL, Noctis Mag, and Atwood Mag. Splitting time between Vancouver and London, he produces music that mixes indie-folk textures with catchy hooks and lyrics that make you think.

On ‘We Were Called The Foxx’, Plain Mister Smith digs into bittersweet memories of childhood mischief and wild adventures gone wrong. Sharp guitar riffs like those from The Cure set the pace, backed by a steady drum beat and light, floating vocals from Findlay Brown keep Plain Mister Smith’s whimsy. It’s a track that captures the messy excitement of growing up, keeping things moving while holding onto that old-school feel.

Plain Mister Smith had this to say: “The Foxx’ was my first band in grade 6 or so. It was a bit of a sonic disaster – I don’t even think we knew we needed to tune our guitars. But you have to start somewhere/sometime! ‘We were called the Foxx’ is a testament to the crazy cacophonic shenanigans we got up to as pre-pubescent want-to-be rock gods.
