Rok Ali and The Addiction have returned with a monumental new album, Pulse, released on October 10th, 2024. The title track, ‘Pulse’, has garnered official GRAMMY® Consideration from the Recording Academy and has been placed on the ballot for the 67th Annual GRAMMY Awards®.
Renowned for their unique sound that blends the sophistication of hard rock with the gritty, dark tones of grunge and metal, this all-star collective features frontwoman Rok Ali, Chris Nix, a guitar virtuoso with an impressive career that includes collaborations with James Brown’s band, Jo Dee Messina, Billy Ray Cyrus, Tonic, and a five-year partnership with Jonathan Davis of Korn. Bassist Lee Beverly spent nearly two decades supporting the legendary Eddie Money, providing a solid foundation for icons like Mickey Thomas and Lou Gramm. On drums, Kevin Murphy serves as the band’s rhythmic heartbeat, known among musicians and fans alike for his dynamic drumming. He has shared the stage with a wide variety of artists, from Tonic to Daughtry, showcasing his remarkable talent.
The title track, ‘Pulse’, stands as a dark grunge rock anthem, chanelling the raw energy of bands like Nine Inch Nails, Incubus, and Soundgarden Deep. Octave-droned snarling guitars, thumping drums and a blistering bassline carry Ali’s searing vocals.
The opening track, ‘Change The Script’, captivates with its 90s-inspired heavy guitar riffs, seamlessly blending Ali’s powerful vocals with the band’s dynamic rock chaos. ‘Beneath The Boards’ offers a more stripped-back, melancholic acoustic moment that highlights the band’s versatility to write a song that is pure and understated. ‘Song Zero’ delivers a high-octane thrill with its layered, thrashing guitars and cleverly crafted melodies. The closing track, ‘Wait For It’ iis a monumental statement that combines heavy 90s rock with Ali’s dynamic vocals, playfully interacting with the rhythm and drum fills.
The album as a whole offers a powerfully provocative and cathartic listening experience as it explores its dark thematic material.
Ali describes Pulse as a “reflection of growth and an invitation to change”.
