Indie pop-rockers The Valmonts released a fervent new EP, Living In A Paranoid Trance, on the 20th of October 2023. The Dublin-based band is composed of Darragh Whyte (vocals, guitar), Keith Whyte (Drums), Cathal Sweeney (Guitar), and Tymek Kocurkiewicz (Bass). Their music has been featured on major publications like The Clash and received airtime on over 50 international radio stations. They have performed at Irish festivals like the Wild Roots Festival in Sligo and sold out shows at Whelans Upstairs in Dublin. One of Living In A Paranoid Trance’s pre-released singles, ‘Cry & Get A Little Drunk’, has already garnered early support from Notion Magazine, as well as an inclusion on the GoldenPlecs ‘Irish Songs You Need To Hear This Week’ list. Influenced by the likes of New Radicals and INXS, the band has a distinctly indie rock feel with a pop polish and mainstream sensibility, with a sound reminiscent of The Kooks and The Vaccines.
Living In A Paranoid Trance expresses a particular emotional narrative felt by the band at the time of its creation, masterfully rendered through their sonic storytelling. Whyte’s resplendent vocal delivery brims with emotion as his lyrics explore universal yet intensely personal themes from lost loves to independence and existentialism. The band’s musicality shines through, beautifully cohesive yet full of emotional range throughout. The infectious melodies and hooks will leap into your memory immediately and stay there for a while, while tasty and resonant guitar licks, bubbling synths, tight drums and driving bass lines lock you in. It deftly dances the line between the charismatic uniqueness of indie rock and the irresistible, radio-ready catchiness of pop.
The Valmonts commented: “We have managed to live in a privately defined world with ‘Living In A Paranoid Trance’ for a while now. It has been the soundtrack to the last few years of our lives and we’re really excited to finally put it out into the world.”
